Patriotic Millionaires Slam J.D. Vance for Debate Lies About the Inflation Reduction Act

Maybe Vance, a millionaire who has taken tens of millions of dollars from billionaire donors like Peter Thiel, thinks that raising taxes on the rich is a bad idea, but he should be honest and say so rather than lying about what’s in Tim Ryan’s record.”

Washington, DC – Tonight, Representative Tim Ryan and J.D. Vance faced off in the final debate in their race for an Ohio Senate Seat. During that debate, J.D. Vance claimed that the Inflation Reduction Act, which Tim Ryan voted for, raised taxes on ordinary Ohioans and unleashed tens of thousands of IRS agents on the American people.

In response to these patently false claims, Morris Pearl, Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires and former managing director at BlackRock, Inc., released the following statement:

“In tonight’s debate, J.D. Vance claimed that the Inflation Reduction Act included a tax increase on ordinary Ohioans, and that it would hire 87,000 IRS agents to go after the American people. Both of those statements are flat out lies.

The only people the IRA raises taxes on are profitable billion dollar corporations and wealthy criminal tax evaders. I would wager that the people of Ohio believe that both of those groups should be paying higher taxes. Maybe Vance, a millionaire who has taken tens of millions of dollars from billionaire donors like Peter Thiel, thinks that raising taxes on the rich is a bad idea, but he should be honest and say so rather than lying about what’s in Tim Ryan’s record.”
