Patriotic Millionaires React to Presidential Debate: Billionaires and Oligarchs Have Their Champion
“Trump likes to pose as a savior for the working class, but his answers last night – not to mention his abysmal track record as president – show that his priority will always be himself and his billionaire benefactors.”
WASHINGTON, DC – Last night, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump faced off in their first presidential debate at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Over the course of 90 minutes, they covered many topics, including taxes.
In response, Morris Pearl, Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires and a former managing director at BlackRock, Inc., released the following statement:
“Trump likes to pose as a savior for the working class, but his answers last night – not to mention his abysmal track record as president – show that his priority will always be himself and his billionaire benefactors. Whether we’re talking about his weird and dangerous obsession with expanding his 2017 tax scam or the deeply anti-worker provisions of Project 2025, voters should be nauseous at the prospect of a second Trump term.
Last night made one thing obvious: billionaires and oligarchs have a champion in the form of Donald Trump, and I might see another tax cut if he wins. But people who work for a living will suffer financially if this man finds himself in the Oval Office again. America can do better.
Vice President Harris simply offered a better economic vision for average Americans. The Vice President will work to reduce costs for families, raise the minimum wage, and compel billionaires and corporations to pay their fair share. Her proposal for a fifty thousand dollar tax credit for small business startups won’t mean a thing to a billionaire, but will make a huge difference to someone who works for a living and wants to start a small business.
Mr. Trump, like the wizard of Oz, is trying to tell Americans to ignore the rich man behind the curtain who is pulling all the strings, and to be afraid of their neighbors. This is not a hard choice.”
