PATRIOTIC MILLIONAIRES RELEASE STATEMENT ON SOUTH DAKOTA GOP’S UNPRECEDENTED REPEAL OF ETHICS REFORM
“South Dakota lawmakers should not be afraid of higher ethical standards”
Washington, DC – In response to the horrifying news that Republicans in the South Dakota legislature voted yesterday to use a contrived state of emergency to repeal the South Dakota Government Accountability and Anti-Corruption Act, a ballot initiative that was approved by a majority of voters in the 2016 election, the Patriotic Millionaires’ Chair released the following official statement:
“The American people have said time and time again that they want ethical and responsible leaders in government. The South Dakota GOP’s refusal to be accept accountability oversight is deeply troubling, and their willingness to take extraordinary measures to overturn a democratically approved law is appalling. South Dakota lawmakers should not be afraid of higher ethical standards, they should embrace them.
The state government has been wracked by scandals, it consistently ranks as one of the worst in the nation for accountability, and yet the state GOP somehow thinks anti-corruption laws are so bad they require a state of emergency to repeal them. Voters in South Dakota have finally said “enough,” it’s time for lawmakers to accept the will of the people and clean up their act,” said Patriotic Millionaires’ Chair Morris Pearl, former Managing Director BlackRock, Inc.
