SCOTUS Decision on Wisconsin Absentee Ballots is “Disgraceful”

“Wisconsin Republicans have made it clear that they care more about preserving their political power than they do about protecting their constituents’ lives.”

Washington, DC – This afternoon, in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to block a court order that extended the period to return absentee ballots for today’s primary election in the state of Wisconsin, Morris Pearl, the Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires and a former managing director at BlackRock, Inc., said:

“Today’s Supreme Court decision on Wisconsin absentee voting is disgraceful. Wisconsin Republicans have made it clear that they care more about preserving their political power than they do about protecting their constituents’ lives. They believe that because they have political power, they have the right to prevent people from voting to take that power away. And the conservative members of the Supreme Court apparently agree, having made it clear today that they are nakedly partisan actors willing to do whatever it takes to protect conservative political power. No one should have to choose between political disenfranchisement and potential death.
America is supposed to be a democracy. If more people voting makes you less likely to win an election, you don’t deserve to win that election. Don’t risk thousands of lives to rig the outcome, change your positions and earn people’s votes.”
