Donald Sherman

Executive Director and Chief Counsel of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington

Donald Sherman serves as the Executive Director and Chief Counsel of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). Prior to joining CREW, he served as Senior Counsel to Ranking Member Claire McCaskill on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Before working in the Senate, Professor Sherman was Chief of Staff and Senior Counsel for Oversight and Investigations in the Office of General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. From 2011 to 2015, Donald served in various roles on the staff of Rep. Elijah Cummings, including as Chief Oversight Counsel. He began his career on Capitol Hill as counsel on the House Ethics Committee, where he investigated alleged ethical violations by Members of Congress and staff. He also practiced law in the Washington, DC office of Crowell & Moring, LLP and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Neil E. Kravitz of the District of Columbia Superior Court. Professor Sherman graduated cum laude from Georgetown University with a degree in American Studies and earned his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.
