Patriotic Millionaires: Henry Cuellar “Does Not Deserve the Establishment’s Support”

“Not every Democrat has to agree on every issue, but some are non-negotiable.”

Washington DC – On May 24th, Representative Henry Cuellar will face off against primary opponent Jessica Cisneros in a runoff election that will serve as a proxy battle for the soul of the Democratic party. Jessica Cisneros, who was endorsed by the Patriotic Millionaires earlier this year, is a proud advocate for the interests of the people of Texas’ 28th District, while Cuellar has made a career of opposing popular and pragmatic legislation supported by the vast majority of Democrats.

In advance of the upcoming runoff election, Morris Pearl, the Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires and a former managing director at BlackRock, Inc., released the following statement:

“We endorsed Jessica Cisneros, Cuellar’s primary opponent because she champions policies that matter for the people of her district, rather than working for the wealthy donor class. She is the kind of public servant this country needs more of, and it is imperative that voters and the Democratic party give her their full support in the May 24th runoff election.

Henry Cuellar is the wrong choice for the people of Texas’ 28th District, and the wrong choice for this country. He has built his career on opposing common-sense legislation supported by virtually every other Democrat and has at times sided with Republicans to undermine the party’s policy and electoral success.

Cuellar played a crucial part in holding the Build Back Better act hostage last fall, has voted against solutions to poverty while representing a district with a poverty rate twice the national average, and opposes raising the corporate minimum tax rate. He does not embody the values of the Democratic party and does not deserve the establishment’s support.

Not every Democrat has to agree on every issue, but some are non-negotiable.”
