Patriotic Millionaires Unite For ‘America Divided’

Patriotic Millionaire Norman Lear is set to take part in a new documentary series on the subject of inequality in American life. Another Patriotic Millionaire, Lawrence Benenson, is helping to fund the project.

The series, titled “America Divided”, will air on the Epix in the fall of 2016 and bring together an all-star cast of celebrities and producers to investigate various aspects of social, economic and political inequality.

Correspondents will include Lear, producer of the classic sitcoms All in the Family, Sanford and Son, One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, Good Times, and Maude; Shonda Rhimes, writer and producer of Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and Scandal; comedians Amy Poehler and Zach Galifianakis; rapper Common, and television star America Ferrara.

Lear will co-produce the series along with Rhimes and Common.

In a recent LA Times story about the series, Lear said the subject of inquality was “of deep concern and paramount interest…The whole subject is a great part of my life.”

Further explaining his interest in combatting inequity, he said: “I never think of myself as coming at it from any place but love of America. I’m not there to doubt anybody’s patriotism and I don’t think I have to wear a button to prove I’m an American and I care. This kind of involvement says much more than that button.”
