Patriotic Millionaire Slams House Farm Bill: It’s “A Cruel Piece of Legislation”

“This is just another attempt by Paul Ryan to pretend that the biggest problem with the federal deficit is lazy poor people, not the $1.5 trillion tax cut he and his colleagues just gave to the richest people in the country.”

Washington, DC – This afternoon, in response to Republicans in the House voting to pass a Farm Bill that would impose strict work requirements on SNAP recipients, the Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires Morris Pearl, former managing director at BlackRock, Inc., released the following statement:

“The Farm Bill just passed by the House is a cruel piece of legislation. It’s a deliberate slap in the face to the millions of low-income Americans who rely on SNAP benefits to survive. This is just another attempt by Paul Ryan to pretend that the biggest problem with the federal deficit is lazy poor people, not the $1.5 trillion tax cut he and his colleagues just gave to the richest people in the country. The addition of stricter work requirements will by his party’s own admission cut over 1 million people off from federal food assistance. We don’t want to live in a country where the government allows its citizens to starve, and neither should anyone else. To most people the idea of causing a poor child to go hungry would be disturbing, but apparently Paul Ryan isn’t most people.”
