Patriotic Millionaires: President Biden is Committing an Unrivaled and Selfless Act of Patriotism

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, President Biden announced he will not seek another term as President of the United States.

In response, Morris Pearl, Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires and a former managing director at BlackRock, Inc., released the following statement:

“President Biden’s decision to sacrifice his personal political ambitions in service to the American people will go down in history as an unrivaled act of selfless patriotism. By passing the baton to the next generation, Biden cements his legacy as a bulwark against the rising tide of authoritarianism, a fierce advocate for working people, and a fundamentally good man who put his country above all else.

The United States has been on a slow march toward authoritarianism and oligarchy for decades. A corrupt class of malignant billionaires has co-opted the Supreme Court, thrown sand in the gears of Congress, and undermined the institutions of American democracy. We stand on the edge of a precipice.

Democrats must now rally behind a candidate who will stand firm against the plutocrats hellbent on seizing total control of our economy and our government. Whoever that candidate is, they must prioritize taxing the rich, paying the people, and spreading the power. Our democracy is on the line.”
