April 15th: Patriotic Millionaires’ Tax Day Public Schedule
WASHINGTON, DC—In recognition of Tax Day and the absurdities found within our tax code that enable oligarchic concentrations of wealth, the Patriotic Millionaires will be hosting a series of public events on and around Capitol Hill.
Beginning at 9:00 AM ET, a mobile billboard commissioned by the Patriotic Millionaires will circle Capitol Hill, the National Mall, Jeffrey Bezos’ Kalorama estate, and other landmarks calling for tax increases on the richest Americans. The billboards will also explicitly call out billionaires for their tax avoidance schemes. The billboard will make planned stops at the Bezos’ residence at 11:00 AM, and be at the Capitol at 12:00 PM.
WHAT: Digital mobile billboard calling for taxes on the super rich
WHEN: Wednesday, April 15th, 9:00 AM–11:00 AM; 12:00 PM–6:00 PM ET
WHERE: Loops around the mall and downtown, with planned stops at the Bezos’ estate at 11 AM ET and the Capitol at 12 PM.
Then, beginning at 12 PM ET at the Senate Swamp, Patriotic Millionaires will join Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) and Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-08) for a joint press conference regarding the introduction of the Equal Tax Act in both chambers of Congress. The bill would make the tax code more equitable by taxing investment income at the same rate as ordinary labor income and by closing other common loopholes used by the wealthy to avoid paying their fair share.
Senator Markey and Congresswoman Ramirez will be joined by Morris Pearl on behalf of the Patriotic Millionaires, as well as Fedrick C. Ingram from the leading labor organization American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
WHAT: Press conference to introduce the Equal Tax Act
WHO:
- Senator Ed Markey (D-MA)
- Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03)
- Morris Pearl, Chair of Patriotic Millionaire
- Fedrick C. Ingram, AFT Secretary-Treasurer
WHEN: Wednesday, April 15th, 12:00 PM–12:30 PM ET
WHERE: Senate Swamp
Later, the Patriotic Millionaires will stand alongside Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Rep. Don Beyer (VA-8), Rep. Chris Deluzio (PA-17), Americans for Tax Fairness, the American Federation of Teachers, and other allied organizations for a Tax Day Rally. Scott Ellis will speak on behalf of the Patriotic Millionaires.
The “Tax the Rich, Make Life Affordable” rally will promote revenue-raising solutions that make life more affordable for everyday Americans. While working people pay what they owe, billionaires and corporations benefit from a system and economy rigged in their favor, paying pennies on the dollar, if anything at all.
