Click HERE to read the full opinion piece that our Senior Vice President for Tax Policy, Bob Lord, wrote for The Hill, in which he compared and contrasted two estate tax bills from Senators Bernie Sanders and John Thune. Sanders’ bill, the For the 99.5 Percent Act, would close loopholes in the estate and gift tax system and strengthen various provisions that protect farming and ranching families. Meanwhile, Thune’s bill, the Death Tax Repeal Act, would eliminate the estate tax altogether; while this would certainly protect families from having to sell farms or ranches, it would give America’s billionaires a large tax windfall.
