Patriotic Millionaires Condemn House Republicans for Protecting Criminal Tax Evaders

“As their first act, House Republicans decided the most important thing they could do for our country was to make it easier for wealthy criminals to illegally cheat on their taxes”

Washington, DC –  Today the new House GOP majority voted, as its very first act, to repeal the $80 billion IRS funding that the Inflation Reduction Act allocated to the agency last year.

This vote follows months of Republicans lying to Americans who have taxes deducted from their paychecks every week — and so don’t really have much of an opportunity to steal, in order to protect the wealthy people who break the law in order to hide their money and fail to pay the taxes they are legally required to pay.

In response, Morris Pearl, the Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires and a former managing director at BlackRock, Inc., released the following statement:

“It took no time at all for the new Republican majority in the House to reveal its true colors. As their first act, House Republicans decided the most important thing they could do for our country was to make it easier for wealthy criminals to illegally cheat on their taxes.

Despite Republican lies about armed IRS agents harassing Americans who work for a living, all of the new IRS enforcement money is going to make sure rich people can’t illegally evade taxes. This vote will not help ordinary Americans, it only helps rich people who want to break the law and cheat on their taxes, many of whom are major Republican donors. House Republicans just proved that they work for their wealthy donors, not the American people.

This vote to defang the IRS shows the Republican party’s true priorities: they want rich people to pay less in taxes no matter what and are willing to protect criminal tax evaders to do so. It’s no coincidence that those same evaders are their friends and donors.”
