Patriotic Millionaires: Julie Su is the Labor Secretary American Workers Need
“The recent gains made by the American workforce are vulnerable, and they need an aggressive, effective advocate in Washington to stand up to the corporations seeking to exploit American workers. Julie Su is that advocate”
Washington, DC – Today, The White House announced that Joe Biden would nominate Julie Su as Secretary of the Department of Labor. Su has served as Deputy Secretary under Marty Walsh since 2021 and was chosen to be acting secretary following the announcement of Walsh’s resignation this upcoming March. Due to her extensive pro-labor history, advocates for working Americans have lauded Julie Su as a fantastic choice, citing, among other credentials, her crucial role in crafting a Californian law designed to fight employee misclassification.
In response, Morris Pearl, the Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires and a former managing director at BlackRock, Inc., released the following statement:
“We are thrilled at Deputy Secretary Julie Su’s nomination for Labor Secretary. Su has fought tirelessly for working people throughout her career, and we look forward to seeing her do the same as Labor Secretary. For decades Su has advocated for low-wage and immigrant communities, and we are confident she will continue to serve the best interest of the working people.
With her pro-labor bona fides, Julie Su is the ideal choice to lead the Department of Labor, especially through the resurgence of union membership and a renewed labor movement. We are confident she will continue to be a forceful advocate for working people.
There is an immense amount of work to be done to protect American workers in our modern economy. The recent gains made by the American workforce are vulnerable, and they need an aggressive, effective advocate in Washington to stand up to the corporations seeking to exploit American workers. Julie Su is that advocate, and we look forward to working with her to make the American economy better and fairer for all Americans.”
