WASHINGTON, DC – In a spectacular display of political cynicism masquerading as faux patriotism, President Donald Trump signed his party’s massive tax and spending bill—the One Big Beautiful Bill Act—into law today, American Independence Day. The day on which 249 years ago, a new nation was born.
In response, Erica Payne, Founder and President of Patriotic Millionaires, said:
“By choosing to sign this spectacular tribute to oligarch greed and political cynicism on Independence Day, Donald Trump issued the ultimate and unapologetic ‘F-U’ to America. Because of this bill, we will approach our nation’s 250th birthday with a country and an economy that is less rich, less safe, and less free.
There is no question where Donald Trump and Republicans stand: right next to the billionaire oligarchs they just sold the country to. There is no longer time to misunderstand the political vision of the American Right.
The damage that will be done to working people immediately, and eventually to our society as a whole, will be irreparable and leave our country a shell of the once-great democratic capitalist state it was. Republicans passed this unpatriotic monstrosity of a budget, and paid for it with a tax code structured exactly how they envisioned it—with concentrated wealth expansion, capital dominating over labor, and working people paying more than their fair share in taxes while billionaires and multinational corporations ride on their backs.
