Following our Spring Symposium in April, we gave you a rundown of the top media hits we received in the spring. It’s been three months, but our momentum in the media shows no signs of slowing down. Instead of making you poke around the internet for all these hits, we’ve compiled them all in one place for you so you can catch up with ease!
As you’ll see below, our media hits take a variety of forms: articles that mention or quote us; TV, radio, and podcast interviews with our members; and opinion pieces written by our members and staff. This time, we decided to highlight some of the social media videos that we’ve created in-house, as well as videos that we’ve collaborated on and created with partners and influencers. We always receive excellent coverage in traditional media, but we’re especially thrilled that we’re attracting more attention on social media in our increasingly digital age.
As for the content of the hits, there’s a little something for everybody. We cover everything from New York politics, North Carolina politics, the Working Americans’ Tax Cut Act (modeled after one of the provisions in our legislative platform, The MONEY Agenda), the World Cup, and our work and mission more generally. Let’s get started!
DREAM for NYC (April 20, 2026)—Instagram video of Morris Pearl
Our Chair, Morris Pearl, walked around the streets of New York City to film this incredible video with DREAM for NYC. In the video, Morris calls on New York Governor Kathy Hochul to raise taxes on millionaires like him, and throws cold water on the myth that they’ll leave if she does. Morris also had a unique request for New Yorkers who are, in his words, “rich or famous or rich and famous” to wear the “I’M RICH, TAX ME” sweatshirt that he donned for the video.
Check out a similar video that we filmed of Morris back in October 2025 here.
IHIP News (April 24, 2026)—“‘I’M RICH, TAX ME!’ Millionaires CALL FOR Taxing the Rich as NY Gov Face HEAVY PRESSURE!”
Four days later, Morris was interviewed by current “I’ve Had It” podcast host and former Bravo reality star, Jennifer Welch, for her solo, shorter news show, “IHIP News.” Both of them proudly wore “I’M RICH, TAX ME” sweatshirts as they talked about the myths of trickle-down economics and millionaire tax flight, why Patriotic Millionaires cares about reducing economic inequality, the need to tax the rich in New York and the rest of America, and more.
MS NOW (April 24, 2026)—“Rich New Yorkers vs. Mamdani: Mayor confronted over new tax plan”
Morris was on a roll in late April. After he filmed with Jennifer Welch on the morning of April 24, he traveled uptown to the Bronx to film a town hall style debate about taxing the rich with NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Kathryn Wylde (former president and CEO of Partnership for New York), moderated by MS NOW’s Chris Hayes. Morris spoke at the 5:20 mark and, much to the delight of the audience, discredited the notion that rich people will leave New York City if they’re taxed more by bluntly declaring, “The whole point of being rich is you can live wherever you want!”
NPR 1A (April 27, 2026)—“‘If You Can Keep It’: What The Wealth Gap Means for Democracy”
Three days later, Morris appeared on NPR’s widely popular 1A radio and podcast show to discuss initiatives in states like New York, California, and Washington to tax the rich to fund various social services. Morris participated in a panel-style interview about these trends with Ray Madoff, a Professor at Boston College Law School, and Kyle Pomerleau, a Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
Fast Company (May 7, 2026)—“Saying ‘tax the rich’ hurts wealthy men’s feelings. Not taxing billionaires hurts everyone else”
One of our tweets caught the eye of a reporter at Fast Company, and it led to this article! Our Founder and President, Erica Payne, didn’t pull punches when she spoke to reporter Kristin Toussaint about Steve Roth, the billionaire CEO of real estate investment firm Vornado Realty Trust, likening the phrase “tax the rich” to a racial slur: “The ‘sky-is-falling,’ ‘chicken-little,’ ‘the-economy-will-collapse-without-our-talent’ mythology they’re trying to spread is patently absurd. The only thing that will collapse if we tax billionaires at an appropriate level is an over-inflated ego or two.”
Chris James (May 8, 2026)—Instagram video of Morris Pearl
Morris sat down with documentary filmmaker and journalist Chris James outside of the New York Public Library to explain why he wants his taxes raised as a rich New Yorker. Their conversation has over 200,000 views on Instagram, with hundreds of comments in agreement with Morris!
Newsweek (May 9, 2026)—Mamdani’s Tax Agenda Sparks Excitement in Florida
Some billionaires like Ken Griffin, the CEO of Citadel, are vocal opponents to NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s push to tax the rich, including through the city’s new pied-à-terre tax on luxury second homes. In this article, Newsweek highlighted Morris as the counterpoint to Ken’s point of view. Morris represented the voice of the NYC millionaires who openly support such policies and won’t leave New York for low-tax states like Florida anytime soon.
CBS News (May 11, 2026)—Proposal would tax millionaires to fund NC public schools
CBS News shared an excerpt from the remarks that North Carolina-based Patriotic Millionaire Monica Lavery delivered at the press conference introducing the Fair Share for Public Schools Act, which would establish a 7% surtax on North Carolinians with over $1 million in income and direct the revenues raised to the state’s public schools.
The News & Observer (May 12, 2026)—“I’m a millionaire and Tar Heel. I want to pay more in taxes for schools”
In addition to speaking at the bill introduction press conference, Monica also penned an opinion piece for The News & Observer about why she supports the Fair Share for Public Schools Act. The bill is personal for Monica, for two reasons: “I feel passionate about fixing our backwards tax code, which gives undue advantages to high earners like me. I also raised four children in Wake County public schools and feel heartsick that our schools are starving for funding at every level. The Fair Share for Public Schools Act would help fix both of these problems…”
Patriotic Millionaires (May 19, 2026)—“A Billionaire Tax Tantrum”
Morris filmed this reel for our social media outside of Ken Griffin’s apartment overlooking Central Park, following the example of NYC Mayor Mamdani who filmed a video in the same location to announce NYC’s pied-à-terre tax on Tax Day the month prior. Morris argued that Ken Griffin shouldn’t be offended by Mamdani or his tax plans, and that billionaires like him have more to gain than lose by paying higher taxes, especially in incredible cities like New York.
The Hill (May 28, 2026)—“If anyone deserves a tax cut in America, it’s the working class”
Our Founder and President, Erica Payne, joined forces with Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), to write an op-ed for The Hill in support of the Working Americans’ Tax Cut Act (WATCA). WATCA was introduced in the Senate by Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen and in the House by Rep. Don Beyer (VA-08); it was modeled after the second part of our very own MONEY Agenda, and would create an exemption for federal income taxes up to the cost of living and shift the responsibility for the lost revenues onto millionaires like our members. Randi and the rest of AFT have been essential partners in promoting the bill both before and after its introduction, and we’re grateful to have them as allies.
Patriotic Millionaires (June 11, 2026) – Tax Myths with Morris: How Jeff Bezos Avoids Taxes
Morris started a new video series on our social media called “Tax Myths with Morris.” Over the course of our work, we’ve encountered a lot of myths about rich people and taxes, so Morris wants to use this series to educate the public and set the record straight on them.
In the first installment of the series, Morris debunks the idea that people who make a lot of money pay a lot in taxes. He uses the example of Jeff Bezos, who managed to pay $0 in federal income taxes in 2007 and 2011.
Other episodes of Tax Myths with Morris include:
- So what is Buy, Borrow, Die: Morris explains why rich people aren’t just wealthy “on paper” and can absolutely afford to be taxed more. While it’s true that most rich people’s money is tied up in illiquid assets like stocks, bonds, etc., they can follow the “buy, borrow, die” strategy to use their assets as collateral to secure low-interest, tax-free loans to fund their fancy lifestyles. And when they die? Their heirs have to pay back the loans, but still don’t have to pay any tax.
- I don’t pay my fair share: Morris thoroughly debunks a myth we hear a lot: that rich people pay most of our taxes, so making them pay more would be unfair. As Morris explains, while it’s true that rich people like our members pay the most actual, literal dollars in tax in America, they’re paying next to nothing when you look at their taxes as a percentage of all the money they make, especially the loads of money they make through the growth in value of their stocks.
Business Insider (July 5, 2026)—“A multimillionaire left NYC for 25 years. Now he’s back and ready to pay more taxes.”
Business Insider sat down with NYC-based Patriotic Millionaire Andrew Tobias as part of their Cost of the City series, which examines how New Yorkers navigate life in a city as expensive as New York. Andrew gave a detailed look into his income, expenses, and life journey. And, of course, Andrew spoke about his desire to pay more taxes…in exchange for a fruit basket!
Patriotic Millionaires (July 6, 2026)—World Cup Instagram video with Matthew Cooke
Patriotic Millionaires worked with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Matthew Cooke to film a cheeky social media video for the World Cup. In the video, Matthew proudly displayed his “TAX THE SUPER-RICH” World Cup shirt. Although the USA didn’t win the World Cup, we’re glad that we “won” on getting this important message out to the public. (Morris and Abigail Disney filmed their own videos wearing the same shirt, too. You can watch Morris’ video here and Abigail’s here.)
Craftsmanship Magazine (July 17, 2026)—The Craft of a Sustainable Economy, Part 7
One of our members, Todd Oppenheimer, is the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Craftsmanship Magazine and the Executive Director of its nonprofit parent organization, The Craftsmanship Initiative. Todd started a new series through the magazine, The Craft of a Sustainable Economy, which highlights many of the causes and consequences of America’s gross economic inequality. In his seventh installment, Todd highlighted our Closer Look about the one-year “mailversary” of Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
Common Dreams (July 22, 2026)—“No, Friends on the Left, We Shouldn’t Tax Hardworking Americans Into Poverty”
Our President, Erica, and Senior Vice President for Tax Policy, Bob Lord, wrote an opinion piece for Common Dreams defending the Working Americans’ Tax Cut Act (WATCA). Since its introduction, there has been a lot of back and forth among left-leaning policy wonks about the bill, so Erica and Bob wrote the piece to clear up some of the main misconceptions about it.
****
As we said back in April, one of our main goals at Patriotic Millionaires is to simply get people in America and around the world talking about our mission. Judging by the number of high-profile media hits we’re creating ourselves and generating for other outlets and influencers, it’s undoubtable that we’re making excellent headway.
We still have our work cut out for us, but we’re thrilled that we’re spreading the word further and further about the need to tax the rich, pay the people, and spread the power.
