ICYMI: Patriotic Millionaires’ 2026 Spring Symposium lays out economic blueprint for 2026, 2028

WASHINGTON, DC—This week, the Patriotic Millionaires hosted elected officials, allied organizations, and members of the media at their 2026 Spring Symposium in Washington, DC. Throughout their public events on Tuesday and Wednesday, participants, elected officials, and allied partners and organizations made clear that the only way to confront the destabilizing levels of concentrated wealth in America going into the 2026 midterm elections and the 2028 presidential election is through taxation. In various panels, discussions, and meetings, experts warned that political instability will continue to grow if extreme wealth continues to go unchecked, and also stressed the steps that must be taken to address the affordability crisis.

On Tuesday, April 14th, at “HOW WE WIN, Tax the Rich, and Save the World.”  in a packed room at the Dupont Circle Hotel, special guests Senator Chris Van Hollen (MD) and Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) emphasized that Democrats must challenge our current economic structure that rewards wealth over work and the importance of candidates running on strong economic, tax, wage, and labor policies. Candidates for office in North Carolina and Maine who also attended the event—including Dr. Kimberly Hardy, Troy Jackson, and Brittany Newton—also emphasized the role these issues play in their own respective races for federal and state office.

The following day on Tax Day (April 15th), members of the Patriotic Millionaires flocked to Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress and their staff to demand action on addressing our rigged economy. First Patriotic Millionaires’ Chair, Morris Pearl, joined Senator Ed Markey (MA), Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03), and AFT Secretary-Treasurer Fedrick C. Ingram to speak in support of the Equal Tax Act. Currently, the tax code treats money differently, depending on who makes it and how it is made. The bill would ensure that millionaire investors don’t pay a lower tax rate on their income than working people pay on theirs.

Later, at the “Tax the Rich, Make Life Affordable” rally, Patriotic Millionaire Scott Ellis stood with Senator Chris Van Hollen (MD), Senator Ed Markey (MA), Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Rep. Don Beyer (VA-08), Rep. Chris Deluzio (PA-17), Washington State Senator Noel Frame (D-WA), and other allied organizations to speak about the importance of taxing the rich to make life affordable for working and lower- and middle- income people. In his remarks, Scott warned about the ways in which uncontrollable amounts of concentrated wealth will lead to irreparable harm to our personal, political, moral, and societal well-being. He and others spoke in support of the Working Americans’ Tax Cut Act, the Equal Tax Act, and other pieces of legislation that would tax the super-rich.

Both the Working Americans’ Tax Cut Act and the Equal Tax Act—two pieces of legislation modeled after parts of the Patriotic Millionaires’ legislative platform, The MONEY Agenda—have earned support from leading labor groups, including AFT, AFSCME, and AFL-CIO. At “HOW WE WIN,” AFT President Randi Weingarten emphasized the importance of the labor movement’s role in dismantling the rigged economy and promoting policies that center working people and their families.
