Deputy Legislative Director

 

Reports to: Political Director, Patriotic Millionaires

Status: Full-time; exempt

Location: Washington DC

Are you passionate about using the tax code as a tool to combat inequality, raising wages, and fighting back against the destabilization of our democracy by the billionaire class and corporate interests? The Patriotic Millionaires are searching for a Deputy Legislative Director to engage with Congress, the Administration, and fellow advocates in our mission to tax the rich, pay the people, and spread the power. 

The Patriotic Millionaires are a group of hundreds of high net worth individuals across the country who are united in their concern about historic levels of inequality and the destabilizing concentration of wealth and power in America. The mission of The Patriotic Millionaires organization is to build a stable, prosperous, and inclusive nation by promoting public policies based on the “first principles” of equal political representation, a guaranteed living wage for all working citizens, and a fair tax system.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Political Director, and working closely with the Deputy Political Director and Senior Advisor for Tax Policy, this position will assist in crafting and executing the federal advocacy strategy for Patriotic Millionaires and serve as a liaison to Congress and the Administration. 

As Deputy Legislative Director you will…

  • Meet with members of Congress and staff to promote our key agenda pieces, including Crack the Code, raising the minimum wage, and combating money in politics and other attacks on democracy.  
  • Build and leverage relationships with policymakers to amplify Patriotic Millionaires’ key messages and agenda items. 
  • Coordinate with the legislative strategy membership committee. 
  • Work in collaboration with the communications team on written materials including talking points, sign on letters, testimony, and any other materials for policymakers and staff. 
  • Help plan and coordinate our annual lobby day, as well as other lobbying visits, including preparing members with training, developing member talking points, and leading member groups. 
  • Support the political director and other legislative staff in scheduling meetings, pulling contact lists, and other research projects. 
  • Ensure the distribution of Patriotic Millionaire products to key government stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About You

  • Committed to combating inequality and building an economy that works for working people. 
  • Experience in government relations either on Capitol Hill, in the Administration, or in the non-profit and advocacy field. 
  • Proven ability to set strong agendas and execute them efficiently and strategically. 
  • Existing Congressional and/or Administration relationships. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively while also being able to manage individual projects with only occasional supervision.
  • Strong written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and balancing priorities to meet broader organizational goals.
  • Experience interfacing with senior staff and executive leadership.
  • Experience in the economic policy space, especially in tax policy, with a knowledge of the political, legislative, and advocacy landscape, preferred.

 The starting salary for this position is $75,000-$85,000. We offer a generous benefits package, including healthcare, vision and dental, 401k matching, generous paid time off, and more.

While our office is fully remote, this role requires in person meetings with external allies and policy makers in Washington, DC. A successful candidate should reside in the DC area.
