PATRIOTIC MILLIONAIRES RELEASE STATEMENT ON HOUSE LEADERS PULLING AHCA VOTE

“The AHCA was a tax relief bill masquerading as health care legislation

Washington, DC – This afternoon, finally bowing to the overwhelming will of the American people, House GOP leaders decided to pull the American Health Care Act from vote. The AHCA, a tax cut for the wealthy that would have caused 24 million to lose insurance, would have dealt incredible harm to millions of Americans. In Washington, DC and around the country, Patriotic Millionaires are speaking out against the defeated bill and expressing their gratitude and relief that this terrible bill will not move forward.

In the Patriotic Millionaires’ own words:

“Wealthy Americans lost out today when the House was unable to pass the AHCA, a tax relief bill for the rich masquerading as health care legislation.  The bill’s provisions, which one Congressman called “cartoonishly malicious”, would have resulted in loss of coverage for twenty-four million people, the end of the mandate for coverage of essential health services and the death of many Americans. But the American people will not have finally won until Congress is ready to deliver what President Trump promised–better health care.” said Patriotic Millionaire Patricia Martone, Attorney.

“One of my best friends of the past 4 decades couldn’t afford health care before the ACA.   After being enrolled, he was able to have a checkup where it was discovered that he had colon cancer. He is being treated and his prognosis is good, thanks to Obamacare.  Without it, he might be dead. I’m incredibly thankful that people like him will continue to have care under the ACA for the forseeable future,” said Catherine Steck, Patriotic Millionaire.

“Actual business people and investors need healthy Americans who can work and can spend money a lot more than they need a tax cut which applies only to the wealthiest among us. The AHCA solved the wrong problems – a tax reduction, which only helps the one percent, and only helps investors and does nothing for wage earners is going to do absolutely nothing to help the millions of people who will be losing their health care,” said Morris Pearl, Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires and former managing director of Blackrock.

“I’m relieved that the very flawed AHCA bill didn’t pass, but I’m dismayed that president Trump has said that he is now going to take his ball and bat and go home.  I hope this will ultimately prove to be an empty threat.  We do still have serious problems in our health care system that need to be solved.  If Donald Trump is so easily discouraged he really needs to find another job because in politics being a quitter is much worse than being a loser,” said Patriotic Millionaire Ron Garett, Co-Founder of Virgin Charter.
