Threats to veto are short-sighted, and in the end will only leave Illinois less prosperous and more unfair”

Washington, DC This morning, in response to Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner’s delay in signing two bills, SB 81 and SB 1933, which would raise the Illinois minimum wage to $15 an hour and put in place automatic voter registration in the state respectively, the Patriotic Millionaires released the following statement:

“Governor Rauner, by signing these two bills you have a chance to make Illinois a national leader. Only two states have passed a $15 minimum wage, and only eight have automatic voter registration. The Illinois General Assembly has shown their dedication to the wellbeing of the people of Illinois by passing these bills, now it’s up to you to show yours. Delays and threats to veto are short-sighted, and in the end will only leave Illinois less prosperous and more unfair. The people of Illinois are ready for these policies, and they’re ready for a governor who is willing to lead their state into the future. We suggest you be that governor, or else they may decide they’re ready for a change in 2018.”
