Patriotic Millionaires to Supreme Court: Why Won’t You Protect American Workers?

“It is disgusting that the highest court in the nation has once again sided with big business over working Americans.”

Washington, DC – This morning, following the Supreme Court ruling that workers may not band together to challenge violations of federal labor laws, the Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires and former managing director at BlackRock, Inc., Morris Pearl released the following statement:

“This morning’s Supreme Court decision is yet another shameless attack on workers. America’s most vulnerable workers need the protections provided by collective action, not a vague notion of economic liberty. Forcing workers to give up their right to sue employers in court as a condition of employment is exploitative and destroys one of the few tools they have left to protect themselves in an economy that has been rigged to favor their employers. The Court’s ruling that each victim of of wage theft can be required to bring an arbitration case individually (not as a group, and not in a court of law,) is an effective endorsement of employers being able to steal from their employees with no fear of redress. It is disgusting that the highest court in the nation has once again sided with big business over working Americans.”
